Hole In The Wall

South Dakota's Needles Highway (a.k.a. Highway 87) is one of the most stunning and picturesque drives in America. It has many great trails, overlooks, and sights to behold. Not surprisingly, this quirky little spot gets easily overlooked. However, Hole in the Wall is a charming little place to get out and explore.

This place gets its name from the literal hole in the granite wall found here. A bridge and walkway lead over to the tiny cave. It doesn't go back very far and is just big enough for several people (and dogs) to stand up inside.

A short unmarked trail heads up and around the hill above Hole in the Wall. It's a fun up-and-over footpath, and fairly easy to traverse. It doesn't take very long to explore but is a neat little trek.

This intriguing location is a good place to stop and stretch the legs. The dogs enjoyed this fun and interesting walk. Hole in the Wall is a nice, quiet spot that also offers picnic tables and restrooms. Take advantage of the fact that it usually goes overlooked by passersby, and enjoy this secluded little hideaway.
